Before you complete the online application form, please ensure that you have read and understand the new Welfare Reform changes below:
It is important that you are aware that as part of the Welfare Reform Act 2012, from April 2013 tenants of working age will lose a percentage of Housing Benefit depending on the number of rooms that they under occupy their property by. If you under occupy your property by 1 bedroom and you are in receipt of housing benefit then the deduction is 14% from your housing benefit entitlement. If you under occupy your property by 2 bedrooms then the deduction is 25% from your housing benefit entitlement.
Please make sure that you are aware of this new rule with regard to Housing Benefit and the potential consequences if you are in receipt of Housing Benefit, of working age and under occupy your home.
e.g. A current average rent for a 3apt property is £252.86 per month, 14% of that would be £35.40 per month, which is £8.17 each week. This is the amount that you will have to pay each week from your benefit.
